After Blind Channel won UMK21 and got the chance to represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, the home city for majority of the band members Oulu has opened a scholarship fund in the name of the band to promote local music culture.
The City of Oulu is setting up a scholarship fund named after the Blind Channel, worth 2000 euros. With the help of the scholarship, the City of Oulu shows its willingness to help and motivate musicians in the Oulu region, so that successful music players can emerge from the city in the future as well.
With the help of the scholarship fund, the city intends to promote the activities of music culture in Oulu and wants to help the musicians in the area as directly as possible. In the future, the city and various parties can also increase the capital of the fund to achieve its purpose.
In recent years, both nationally and internationally renowned artists have emerged from Oulu, all of whom have common roots in Oulu’s music education and culture. For example, Finland’s Eurovision 2018 representative Saara Aalto has studied and lived in Oulu. In 2016, the City of Oulu held an open-air concert to congratulate Saara on her success at The X Factor UK.
Blind Channel will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song “Dark Side”. Finland competes in the second semifinal of the contest in Rotterdam.
