Only 3 winners left till the end of our JESC countdown! Previously we took a look on JESC 2016 winner Mariam Mamadashvili. Let’s continue the countdown and check on Polina Bogusevich who won the contest in 2017.
Tbilisi 2017: throwback
The show was hosted at the modern 4,000-seat Olympic Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia. 16 countries participated in the 2017 edition of the contest.
For the first time ever, a new voting structure was introduced. It allowed viewers to vote online for their favourite artists, so they can make their votes count no matter where they live.
Polina Bogusevich from Russia brought Russia its second victory with her song “Крылья (Wings)”. Georgia finished second, Australia came third.
Before the Junior Eurovision Polina took part in different contests such as “Ezerski Biseri” (North Macedonia, 2012), “The Voice Kids Russia” (2014), “Sanremo Junior” (2016). Later, in 2017 she was selected to represent Russia at the JESC 2017 by the national selection show.
Life after the Junior Eurovision
After the contest Polina had the warmest reception back at home in Moscow, Russia. She also was invited as a guest to several TV shows and concerts.
The young artist continued her career by releasing several singles:
- Heavy On My Heart (2018)
- Я не один (Ya ne odin/ I’m not alone) (2018)
- Weekend (2019)
In 2019 she was invited to be among jury for the Russian national selection for JESC 2019. That year Tatyana Mezhentseva and Denberel Oorzhak won.
Polina also tried her hand in directing. Her short movie “Stronger” was released in October 2019 and can be found on Polina’s YouTube channel.
What is Polina up to now?
Currently Polina is 17 years old. She is about to finish school and continue her studies. Earlier Polina mentioned she would like to be a singer anyway, however, as an alternative she could choose a path of a film director or even a veterinarian.
On October 9 Polina told her Instagram followers there’s a new single coming up very soon. She also post a lot of updates on her Instagram page. Stay tuned!
