๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ Bosnia & Herzegovina will not return to Eurovision in 2022

The Balkan countries are busy announcing their participation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Italy. Following an exciting recent announcement of Montenegro’s return, there is unfortunately also bad news: the Bosnian broadcaster BHRT has confirmed to ESCToday that Bosnia & Herzegovina will not participate in Eurovision 2022.

Sixth consecutive absence

The last time we saw Bosnia & Herzegovina at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2016, when Dalal and Deen performed “Ljubav Je”. After this, the country had to stop participating due to financial issues at the broadcaster. It appears that, unfortunately, the situation is still the same. According to ESCToday, the Bosnian broadcaster shared that they are under EBU sanctions because of financial debts. Until these debts are respected, the country is unable to participate in Eurovision.

This means that it will be the sixth consecutive absence of the country in the contest, who also missed out between their participations of 2012, “Korake Ti Znam”, and 2016, the aforementioned “Ljubav Je”. In 2017, Ralph Siegel shared that he wanted to finance Bosnia’s return, but this offer was declined by BHRT. Fans will surely be disappointed by their absence, and we can only hope to see Bosnia & Herzegovina return sometime in the future!

Bosnia & Herzegovina at the Eurovision Song Contest

Bosnia & Herzegovina debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, and has participated 19 times in the contest since then. The countryโ€™s best result came in 2006. The contest came from Athens, Greece, whereย Hari Mata Hari sangย โ€œLeijaโ€. They came second in the semi-final with 267 points due to this they qualified for the final. In the final, they came third with 229 points.

The country last took part in Eurovision in 2016, in Stockholm, Sweden; with the song โ€œLjubav Jeโ€. Sung by Dalal and Deen, featuring Croatian cellist Ana Rucner and rapper Jala. The song placed 11th with 104 points in the semi-final. Due to this, they failed to qualify for the final. This was the country’s first non-qualification since the introduction of the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they have not returned since.

I have watched Eurovision every year since 2009, and have become actively involved in the fan culture since 2016! My favourite genre in Eurovision tends to be rock, but I am not opposed to pop songs or ballads at all. If the song is good, I will like it :) As an Amsterdam native, I am very lucky to visit Eurovision in Concert each year. In 2021, I was even lucky enough to attend 5 Eurovision shows in Rotterdam!
