Luna Ki at risk of being disqualified from Benidorm Fest 2022

Last week the Spanish broadcaster RTVE announced the Benidorm Fest 2022 participants. The list of 14 artists looks exciting enough, however, there are some doubts already if it stays the same till the contest itself.

As Formula TV reports, Luna Ki, who is confirmed to take part in Benidorm Fest this year with the song “Voy a morir”, is at risk to be off the national selection.

The reason is a possible violation of the contest rule “the songs must be original, and not have been published, performed or distributed, in whole or in part, before September 1, 2021“. Earlier it was found that the entry has already been performed more than a year ago, on September 4th, 2020 during the concert within “Nits del Fòrum” in Barcelona.

Formula TV also claim, RTVE confirmed that they are informed and are currently investigating the case to make a decision whether Luna Ki can still take part in Benidorm Fest on such terms or not. However, the artist hasn’t made any comment on the situation yet.

Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest

Spain first appeared in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 in Cannes and came back to every contest edition since without skipping one. The country managed to win twice for 2 years in a row: in 1968 and in 1969 while hosting the contest in Madrid.

In 2021 it was Blas Cantó, who represented Spain with his song “Voy A Quedarme”. The artist came 24th in the Grand Final. Earlier he was also selected to perform with an entry “Universo” for 2020 edition, which unfortunately, was cancelled due to the pandemic.
