Rehearsal review

Rehearsing today for Kazakhstan inside La Seine Musicale is Alinur & Beknur, performing “Ertegi alemi (Fairy World)”. As the first rehearsals are closed to the press, this review is based upon content made public by the EBU and France Télévisions.

Alinur & Beknur are the first to take to the stage in the afternoon session and they immediately transport us to their fairy world accompanied by their matching futuristic outfits in silver and purple. The staging here is very minimalistic with the duo at centre-stage. The fairy world on the LED backdrop makes you think of a futuristic jungle with lots of blues, pinks and purples colour-wise. We also see a dolphin floating on one side of the screen.

We’ve been promised “a surprise or two” at the end of the Kazakh performance although details of which have yet to be made public. We shall wait until we see their second rehearsal on Friday to see exactly what this may be. Situated between Armenia and Albania in the running order, the ballad will stand out and Kazakhstan will be hoping to add to their list of top-ten finishes at Junior Eurovision!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
