Familiar faces return to Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2022

It's her, Jessica M! Sammarinese entrant makes a comeback in Malta

Malta have just announced the 22 participants in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2022. As their famous national final returns, so do many of its competitors. On the list, we also see Eurovision entrants Richard Micallef and Jessica Muscat as two of the stand-out names. Check out who else is there below!

A Maltese star-studded cast

Back in 2014, Firelight represented Malta at Eurovision in Copenhagen. Now, eight years later, its singer Richard Micallef (32) is giving the national final another go. He has written his song Hey Little himself. The same goes for Jessica Muscat. She, alongside Jennifer Brening, represented San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Jessica is returning with a song by the staple duo of Gerard James Borg and Philip Vella behind her song Kaleidoscope.

Also on the list is internationally known singer Emma Muscat. The Maltese born 22-year old rose to fame in Italy on Amici di Maria de Filippi and has since released many successful singles, including Sangria, which claimed a gold certificate in Italy and scored well over 20 million views. Her MESC entry is titled Out of sight.

Besides the three aforementioned names, we see Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010 entrant Nicole Azzopardi. In Minsk, she placed thirteenth with her entry Knock Knock! … Boom Boom! Now, she’s returning to the Maltese Eurovision spotlight with Into The Fire, written by Per Jonsson, Marika Lindé, Dimitri Stassos, Nektarios Tyrakis and Peter Boström. The latter is no stranger to Eurovision, having won the show in 2012 as composer behind Loreen and Euphoria. Other Eurovision songs he’s written include Amanecer and Popular.

A comeback for Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2022

MESC 2022 is making a comeback for the first time since 2018. In those years, Malta’s TVM used a talent show to select its entrant before selecting a song internally. It brought them two final appearances with Michaela Pace and Destiny in 2019 and 2021. This year, Je me casse even won its semifinal in Rotterdam before finishing in seventh place in the Grand Final.

The MESC list

Below you can find the full list for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2022. These 22 will enter a semifinal to fight for a spot on the grand MESC final. In total, sixteen of them will make it there to fight for the right to fly the Maltese flag in Turin next May.
