SVT cancels the Melodifestivalen 2022 tour

No tour in 2022

Due the current restrictions in Sweden, the Swedish broadcaster SVT had to cancel the Melodifestivalen 2022 tour. All the shows will be broadcasted from Stockholm, similarly as in 2021.

With the high number of coronavirus infections in Sweden, SVT does not consider it justifiable to travel out into the country for six weeks with a large team. The decision was made during this week by SVT and partners.

Oh how I wish people around the country could have come and watched the Melodifestivalen. Everyone who had looked forward to the broadcasts from Malmö, Gothenburg, Lidköping, Linköping and Örnsköldsvik. But the situation is as it is and now we are making the best of the situation. Melodifestivalen is whole Sweden’s party and we will do our best to create an exciting TV program that spreads warmth and joy when it is needed most

Hanna Stjärne, CEO of SVT

All six programs will be broadcast live from Stockholm. However, SVT and partners are still looking at the arena to broadcast all six liveshows from. Recently also the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV decided to postpone their national selection Söngvakeppnin.

Sweden will select their Eurovision 2022 representative in the Melodifestivalen final on 12th of March. The final was set to be broadcasted from the Friends Arena in Stockholm.
