The second-last entry of Finland’s national selection for Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is now out. Tommi Läntinen takes part in UMK22 with the song “Elämä kantaa mua” (Life carries me).

The song is written by Elli Haloo, Leo Hakanen and Jere Marttila. Together with Jukka Soldan they form Haloo Helsinki!, one of the most popular bands in Finland. After the group got signed with record label EMI Music Finland in 2007, they released their first single, the self-titled “Haloo Helsinki!”. The next year their debut album, again self-titled Haloo Helsinki!, was released and helped the band get some success in Finland.

They got their big breakthrough with the second single from their third album. “Maailman toisella puolen” has been certified platinum in Finland and the same year the group got nominated for two awards at the Finnish music gala Emma Gaala, including the Best Group. Overall, the group has released seven studio albums and one EP, and sold over 300 000 records. In 2021, they premiered their new single “Piilotan mun kyyneleet” as part of the UMK21 show.

Who is Tommi Läntinen?

Tommi Läntinen started his career in 1979 as the vocalist for rock band Fabrics. After the group disbanded, he joined the group Rin Tin Tin. The group released only one album, and Tommi went on to join another rock band Boycott. After the group went on 15-year-long hiatus, Tommi started his solo career. In 1994 he released his first solo album. His second studio album gave him got two big hits in Finland, “Kevät ja minä” and “Via Dolorosa“.

Tommi continued releasing music regularly until 2005, when he took part in Finland’s national selection with the song “Mitä vaan”. He failed to qualify to the final of the contest and the next year he announced he will take a break from music. He started to perform again in 2010 and released his seventh studio album the next year. He also released a special version of his hit “Kevät ja minä”, titled “Jari ja minä“, which is an ode for the footballer Jari Litmanen.

In 2017 the group Boycott made their second comeback, first being in 2007, and released a new studio album. The same year Tommi Läntinen featured on a song “Vielä kerran” by rap duo Yksi Totuus. The song has been streamed over ten million times on Spotify. In 2019, Tommi took part in Survivor Finland but was eliminated as the third contestant. He has also taken part in television show Tähdet, tähdet alongside Finland’s Eurovision 2007 representative Hanna Pakarinen.

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2022

The eleventh edition of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu is taking place on February 26th at 20:00 CET. Seven acts will compete and the Finnish public together with international juries will choose Finland’s representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin.

The seven contestants who are taking part are Cyan Kicks, BESS, The Rasmus, Younghearted, Olivera, Tommi Läntinen and Isaac Sene. The next song will be released tomorrow at 23:00 CET.
