With the submission window just over a month away, we are still yet to hear any official word from CyBC on who they’ll be sending to Turin. Despite early rumours of Evangelia and Tania Breazou, national media have recently reported that the broadcaster are yet to select both an artist and a song. They have, however, announced their creative team for Turin in the meantime.
In the absence of an official announcement from CyBC, speculation remains in Greek and Cypriot media around who will be selected to represent Cyprus in Turin.
As reported by InfeGreece, ANT1 Radio’s Good Morning Show gave an update on what could be going on behind the scenes. With rumours around Ivi Adamou’s possible return to the contest floating around consistently over the past few years, it was claimed that 2022 would not be the year.
The hosts did, however, drop a big hint that it could be another Panik Records signee – Andromachi Dimitropoulou.
Although this has not confirmed by the broadcaster, this rumour is conducive with the other hints that have surfaced around CyBC’s strategy – a female singer and a relative newcomer on Panik’s roster, with a pre-chosen dance entry.
Andromachi Dimitropoulou, who performs under the moniker ‘Andromachi’, was born in Germany, before emigrating to Greece later in her childhood. Her breakthrough came as a contestant on The Voice of Greece in 2015, where she made it to the live shows. Since then, she signed to Panik Records and released a string of popular singles, most notably “Na Soun Psema“, which has almost 5 million views.
She is known for her etherial take on Greek folk, with her style being described as “like a beautiful fairy”. In 2020, she was a musical guest on the popular Greek music show Στην Υγειά μας ρε παιδιά, which was a staple for veterans in the Greek music scene.
ESCXTRA would certainly approve of this choice, considering that she was included in our recent editorial on who we would like to see represent Cyprus in the future.
