Evangelia confirms she is still awaiting decision from CyBC

CyBC is yet to announce its representative for Eurovision 2022

Last year, the process of selecting Greece’s next Eurovision act became one of the hottest races of the season, much like Cyprus’ tender for Eurovision 2021. While Greece’s ERT eventually opted for Amanda Georgiadis, Cyprus’ CyBC is get to confirm their representative. Rising Greek-American popstar Evangelia has confirmed this week that she is still awaiting a decision from the Cypriot broadcaster.

Back in October, multiple outlets had reported that Evangelia had submitted three songs to CyBC to be intention to represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2022. She had previously met with Panik Records, the label behind recent Eurovision stars Eleni Foureira and Elena Tsagrinou.

Via her Instagram story this week, she confirmed that she had indeed submitted multiple songs to CyBC, but she is still waiting for a decision from the broadcasting corporation. In response to a fan question about her candidacy, she claimed to be taking it “day by day, whatever happens, happens”.

In a previous Instagram Q&A, Evangelia described the songs as similar to her past singles such as “Pame Pame” and “Fotiá”, containing both Greek and English lyrics with Greek folk elements.

About Evangelia

Evangelia Psarakis is a Greek-American singer, who has become a rising star in the Greek pop scene thanks to the success of her singles “Pame Pame” and “Fotiá”. Having grown up between her grandmother’s farm in Crete and her parents’ home in New Jersey, USA, her sound is a blend of Greek folk and modern pop.

Evangelia was one of the artists named in our editorial on what we would like to see from Cyprus at Eurovision 2022.

Ever since I saw Helena Paparizou's triumph at Eurovision in 2005 (at the tender age of 6), I have been crazy about Eurovision. From the regional native language bops and shrieky female-led balladry to the sophisticated avant garde pop songs and chart-friendly EDM, I love everything about this cultural phenomenon. I'm currently working as a Delivery Manager in a software development team.
