Tonight the semi-final of Romania’s Selecția Națională 2022 took place with twenty songs competing. Ten songs qualified to the final on March 5th.
Selecția Națională 2022 final

Interestingly, the winner of the online voting round which determined the qualifiers for this semifinal failed to make it through. E-an-na and their song “Malere” had landed a landslide in the online vote, picking up over 10,000 votes, with runner-up Dora Gaitanovici scoring a little more than 3,000. They were televote qualifiers and none of the five that made it through on public vote alone made it through. E-an-na, Vizi, Oana Tăbultoc, Mălina and Andra Opoiu all failed to qualify. On the other hand, Kyrie Mendél, who finished 41st in the preliminary televoting round, did make it through. Tonight’s show was, as one might expect with these results, 100% jury vote.
Tonight’s show was hosted by Anca Mazilu and Bogdan Stănescu, while Romania’s Eurovision 2017 representative Ilinca Băcilă, hosted the green room. The ten finalists for Selecția Națională 2022 were decided by a jury panel. Romania will choose their Eurovision 2022 representative on March 5th. The winner determined by a 50/50 split of public and jury voting.
Romania hopes to qualify to the final for the first time since 2017. Last year the country was represented by ROXEN, who failed to qualify to the final with the song “Amnesia”. In 2022, Romania will compete in the second semi-final of the contest in Turin. Romania’s representative will perform on the second half of the show.
