Over the past years, the audience poll has not always been able to predict the winner of Melodifestivalen. In 2020, the audience of the dress rehearsal had Anis Don Demina as their winner with 27.9 percent of the votes. In 2019, the audience of the dress rehearsal thought the eventual winner John Lundvik was the best of the night with 34.8 percent of the votes.

Also in 2018 the eventual winner Benjamin Ingrosso won the audience poll with 22.5 percent of the votes. Robin Bengtsson finished third in the audience poll in 2017, with Wiktoria being the audience’s favourite. Televote winner Nano finished only five votes behind Wiktoria, with Robin Bengtsson behind him. Coincidentally, in the final of Melodifestivalen 2017, Robin finished third in the televote as well.

The final of Melodifestivalen 2022 takes place on March 12th from Friends Arena. The winner will be decided by the Swedish public together with the international juries and will represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin. Sweden will compete in the second semifinal of the contest on May 12th. Sweden’s representative will perform on the second half of the show.
