While we are still waiting for one Eurovision 2022 song to be released, eight weeks before the Eurovision final is the perfect time to go through some statistics. First, we are seeing which songs have been used in the most videos on the social media app TikTok as of March 19th.

On TikTok, next to having a library of music you can add on your videos in the app, some people upload videos to the app with the sound already included in the video. However, the clever TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song that is being used on the video, allocates it under the right song and then includes it on the number of total amount of videos where that sound has been used on.
However, for some songs, the algorithm has not put them under the right song and the artist. For example, for Citi Zēni, the number under the official audio is 229, while there is unofficial audio that has been used in 9034 videos. Therefore for all the songs, we chose to include the one sound with the highest possible number. The only criteria was that the sound has to have the name of the song in the title so it was possible for us to find it.
TikTok has played a big role on making Eurovision songs mainstream hits in the past years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a worldwide hit a year after winning the contest when being used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok hits from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street” that went viral on the app in 2018 and has been since used in over two million videos since.
