Rehearsal review

Stage presentation

WRS has two male and two female dancers and the performance begins with focus on two dancers who are lit with a very low level light to give a silhouette effect. When it cuts into WRS, the full choreography begins. When the chorus starts, the stage becomes brightly bathed in red and yellow with the lyrics on the back wall, as well as the floor.

The choreography for this is strong throughout, and varied too – there’s a lot going on here and it fully keeps your attention until the end with an outfit change for WRS into the final chorus. Throughout the performance, WRS has great connection with the camera and comes across as extremely likeable! In the final chorus, the screens at the back turn into a ‘golden shower’ curtain pyro effect – even though there is no pyro in this performance.

Costumes and styling

The two male backing dancers are dressed in crop tops, the two female backing dancers are in fitted playsuit outfits – all are dressed in a deep maroon tone. This contrasts nicely with WRS who is dressed ina long-sleeved red shirt and black leather trousers.

There is a reveal for the final chorus where a backing dancer pulls off his top and reveals a silver bejewelled black vest top.

Vocal quality

Considering the immense amount of choreography that WRS does in this performance, his vocals are competent and strong enough. You wouldn’t call this ‘badly sung’, despite the amount of effort that goes into the dancing on stage.

Overall impression

For Romania today, this is a decent rehearsal that WRS delivers well. Whilst it’s a total upgrade from the national final, you can see where the roots of this performance came from. However, there could be more dynamic camera cuts to really match the tempo and energy of this performance to elevate it further.
