GBP the national broadcaster of Georgia confirms participation in Eurovision 2023 and the return of a national final selection. A switch in reality shows will see The Voice choose the next Georgian representative for the contest to be hosted in the United Kingdom next May.
Winner of The Voice Georgia will go to Eurovision
This week Georgia became the latest country to confirm their participation for Eurovision 2023. As well as this, GBP the national broadcaster, revealed that the Caucasus nation would return to a national selection format. Previously in 2019 and 2020, Georgia used the Idol reality show format to select their Eurovision representatives. However this will be the first time rival show, The Voice is used for the selection. At present it is not known how the competing Eurovision song will be chosen and assigned to the winner.
From August 23 until September 20 potential contestants can submit their applications to take part in the fifth series of The Voice. The show will air on main channel 1TV.
Georgia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Back in 2007 Georgia made their Eurovision debut in Helsinki with Sopho and her entry, ‘Visionary Dream‘. A strong start resulted in a first qualification and 12th place in the Final. Overall Georgia have had mixed fortunes in the contest. Their most recent appearance in the Grand Final was Nika Kocharov and Young Georgian Lolitaz with, ‘Midnight Gold’, which placed 20th.
Last year Georgia internally selected Circus Mircus and the entry, ‘Lock Me In’. Unfortunately a place in the Final could not be unlocked, finishing in last place in the second Semi-Final in Turin.
