The title of Cyprus’ song for Eurovision 2024 has been revealed! Silia Kapsis will be performing “Liar”.
Broadcaster CyBC announced this on their social media last week. They also revealed that the song is written and composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos and Elke Tiel. Kontopoulos already has a lot of Eurovision experience, known for several Greek, Russian and Moldovan entries in recent years. His first song to appear at Eurovision was “Work Your Magic” (Belarus 2007), followed by “Shady Lady” (Ukraine 2008) and “This Is Our Night” (Greece 2009). He has also composed, among others, both of Sergey Lazarev’s Eurovision songs (Russia 2016 and 2019), both of Stefania’s (Greece 2020 and 2021) and Natalia Gordienko’s two most recent Eurovision songs (Moldova 2020 and 2021). Elke Tiel is a Dutch former tennis player who has turned to songwriting and producing. She has previously worked with FOURCE, the boy band who represented the Netherlands in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest of 2017.
Silia Kapsis was chosen to represent Cyprus in September last year. Kapsis was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, but has a Cypriot-Greek background. Despite her age – she turned 17 last month – she already has a successful career in singing, acting and dancing. This will be the second year in a row that Cyprus selects an Australian singer of Cypriot descent, following Andrew Lambrou’s appearance in 2023.
