Fribourg considering bid to host Eurovision 2025

After Nemo’s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, numerous Swiss cities are declaring their interest to be the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This week, Fribourg became the latest city to offer their location as the home of Switzerland 2025.

Fribourg for Eurovision 2025?

Already, Geneva, Zurich, Basel and St. Gallen have declared their interest in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Now it’s the turn of Fribourg to put forward their hosting credentials to the EBU.

Recently, the current CEO of local hockey team, HC Fribourg-Gottéron stated that the city is indeed looking into the potential for Fribourg to host Eurovision 2025. John Gobbi also suggested the BCF Arena; the ice rink where his team plays, as a possible venue.

We are currently analysing and discussing if we could bring Eurovision 2025 to Fribourg. We are also analysing if the ice rink could meet the size requirements. It is certainly big but there are bigger arenas in Switzerland.

However, there are many challenges for the lofty ambitions of Fribourg’s potential host bid. The main issue lies with the BCF Arena itself. At a capacity of just 9,000 this falls below the 10,000 minimum requirement. With major international airports almost 2hrs away via public transport, this also puts doubt into the success of any bid. In terms of hotel availability, Fribourg boasts over 400 hotels. Previous requirements for Eurovision host bids, have asked for a minimum of 2000 hotel rooms for delegations and sponsors.
