ERT the Greek national broadcaster have confirmed the Mediterranean nation will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Furthermore, ERT have announced they will return to a national final selection process.
Greece to return to live national final selection
Ahead of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025 taking place in Basel, Switzerland, ERT becomes the latest broadcaster to confirm their participation. As well as this, the Greek broadcaster has revealed that they will use a national final selection process for the first time since 2017. Moreover, this will be the first open selection without record label or invited artist support since 2002.
Aikaterini Kaskanioti the CEO of ERT confirmed the news in a special broadcast from the Athens Conservatory. Any Greek national is welcome to apply and the result will be determined partly through public televote. However, the full details on the format are yet to be confirmed.
Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest
Out of 44 participations to date, Greece has won the Eurovision Song Contest once – in 2005 with Helena Paparizou’s ‘My Number One’. They have also finished in third place on three occasions (2001, 2004 and 2008).
Earlier this year, Marina Satti brought Greece back to the Grand Final and placed 11th with 126 points for ‘ZARI’.
