Due to the increased popularity of Benidorm Fest in the Spanish speaking world, RTVE is increasing the level of access and contest this year. In a first, RTVE is going to broadcast the festival on North and Central American shortwave radio. To further increase accessibility, all three live shows will be broadcast in sign language.
The shows will be presented by an all-female line-up for the first time. Paula Vázquez, Ruth Lorenzo and Ines Hernand take the lead with a wealth of television experience. Ines previously hosted Benidorm Fest in 2022 and 2023, while Ruth Lorenzo who represented Spain in 2014, resumes her hosting duties after her first run last year. Although this is Paula’s first Benidorm Fest, she previously hosted the Spanish national final in 2007.
How will the winner be selected?
The selection will take place over three shows: two Semi-Finals and a Final.
The first Semi-Final will take place on January 28, 2025. The second Semi-Final will be two days later on January 30, 2025. The top 4 songs will advance from each Semi-Final to the Final, which will be held on February 1, 2025, when Spain will decide, from the eight participants in the final, which one will represent them in Basel, Switzerland in May.
The results of the festival in both the Semi-Finals and the Final will be decided through a combination of public votes and an expert jury. However, the full results of the Semis will only be published after the Final.
February 1, 2025 will be the first Super Saturday of the season. On the same evening will also be broadcast the finals of Eurosong (Belgium) and EMA (Slovenia), as well as the semi-final of Supernova (Latvia), the 4th heat of Eurovizija.LT (Lithuania) and the first show of Melodifestivalen (Sweden).
Last year, Nebulossa won Benidorm Fest and brought one of the most vivid crowd engagement in Malmö, despite a relatively low result in the Grand Final (22nd, with 30 points).
