Ahead of the second Semi-Final of Malta’s upcoming national selection, Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025, broadcaster TVM has confirmed the running order for the competing artists.
MESC 2025 Semi-Final 2
Last month, broadcaster TVM held a live draw to determine which of the two Semi-Finals the 24 acts taking part in MESC 2025 would participate in. During this allocation draw, the opening and closing acts for each Semi-Final were chosen. Now, the Maltese broadcaster has confirmed the running order for the second Semi-Final taking place tomorrow night.

- Miguel Bonello – ‘Breaking The Cycle’
As confirmed by TVM, Alexandra Alden has now been replaced in the competition by Dario Bezzina ft. Joseph Il-Muni. Among the line-up are former Eurovision representatives Kurt Calleja, (Eurovision 2012), Jessika as part of JVF, (San Marino Eurovision 2018) and Fabrizio Faniello also part of JVF, (Eurovision 2001 & 2006).
Format of MESC 2025
A total of 24 acts will participate in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The national final will be split into three live shows at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre in Ta ‘Qali. This includes two Semi-Finals on February 4 and 6 and a Grand Final on February 8. During the Semi-Finals, the results of the jury and public voting will advance 8 acts from each show. In the Grand Final 16 acts will compete for the votes of the jury and public who will select one act to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland this May.
Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest
Malta first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 with Joe Grech and his song, ‘Marija I-Malitja’, which finished in last place with 52 points. They also finished last on their second attempt in the contest in 1972. After a third appearance in 1975, Malta withdrew from the contest until 1991, when they returned and finished in sixth place with 106 points.
Since their return in 1991, Malta has finished in the top three on four occasions – Mary Spiteri with ‘Little Child’ in 1992 and Chiara with ‘The One That I Love‘ in 1998 which both finished in third place. Also, Ira Losco with ‘7th Wonder’ in 2002 and Chiara with ‘Angel’ in 2005, which both finished in second place. Thus, making the Mediterranean island one of the most successful to never win the contest outright.
Last year, Malta was represented by the MESC 2024 winner, Sarah Bonnici. During the second Semi-Final of the Malmö contest, ‘Loop’ opened the live show and finished in 16th place with 13 points.
