Alexandra Căpitănescu wins Selecția națională in Romania

Alexandra Căpitănescu has just won the Romanian national selection and will represent Romania at Eurovision in Vienna next May, with the song “Choke me”.

“Choke me” was chosen by the Selecția națională jury, with no televote being used in the final. The detailed results are not yet known, but a top 3 was announced, without any order. “Dor” and “Bailando Solo” completed this top 3.

This will mark Romania’s first participation since Liverpool 2023, after which the national broadcaster, TVR, opted out of the Contest for two years. The comeback was announced last autumn, with a focus on a more competitive process to select a quality entry.

Romania will perform in the first half of the second semi-final in Vienna, on Thursday 14 May. Although all the songs from the second half have been released or selected, we are still missing four entries from the first half, which should be released in the coming days: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Czechia and Switzerland.
