Following the announcement that Burgas will be the hosts of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 next May, numerous airlines have announced additional flights for the travelling Eurovision fans.
Multiple airlines confirm new schedules for Bulgaria’s Eurovision hosting
Soon after the announcement of Burgas becoming the city for Bulgaria’s first ever Eurovision hosting, everyone’s attention quickly turned to flight availability and travel arrangements for next May. In order to support the expected additional passenger footfall, numerous domestic and international airlines have announced plans to increase their flight schedules for Eurovision 2027.
Bulgaria
Bulgaria’s national carrier, Bulgaria Air have recently confirmed increased capacity for its current Sofia to Burgas connection. From May 2 to May 19 travelling fans can expected two daily flights from the Capital to the Eurovision host city. A new midday flight supports the currently operating evening flight schedule as of May 9. Meanwhile, new morning flights will be added post-Grand Final from May 17 to May 19. Seats on these flights are available to book as of August 25. The experienced airline was previously the official carrier for Bulgaria’s hosting of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015.
Austria
Last year’s Eurovision hosts Austria have also increased their flight schedules to link the past and present together. The national airline Austrian Airlines has confirmed it will provide additional flights to Burgas from Vienna throughout the period of May 8 to May 22. Typically this flight routes runs during the height of the Summer tourist season. However, in May of 2027 the flights are expected to run on May 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 21 and 22. The capacity notably increasing during the week of Eurovision itself. Take off is expected at 3:50pm in Vienna, with arrival in Burgas at 6:40pm. For the returning flight, take off from Burgas is anticipated at 7:20pm, with arrival in Vienna due at 8:10pm. At present, Vienna ranks in the top 10 of airport connections to Burgas.
United Kingdom
Many British tourists will know nothing beats a Sunny Beach package holiday. Some Eurovision travellers may have already taken the stress out of individualising their trip with early deposits on a hotel, flights and transfers package to the nearby resorts to Burgas. However, for those still waiting to commit to their plans, budget-friendly UK airline Jet2 has also increased its flight availability. Birmingham, East Midlands, Glasgow and Manchester will see up to three three flights per week. Currently Manchester is the fifth most popular connecting airport to Burgas. At the time of writing, EasyJet, the official Eurovision partner flight sponsor, has yet to confirm its 2027 flight schedules.
Türkiye
Of course, with Türkiye neighbouring the Balkan nation, there is an opportunity to turn Istanbul into a connecting transport hub for the travelling Eurovision fans. This is an idea hoped to become a reality by The Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov. Although Türkiye no longer participates in the contest, it has good transport and infrastructure knowledge from hosting the contest back in 2004 as well as more recent events such as next years’ European Games 2027. Istanbul Airports operates connections to over 320 destinations and is seven hours away from Burgas by coach.
