An Xtra Happy Birthday; 29 June

Greetings to Iceland, Estonia and Germany/Denmark!

Quite many Eurovision artist have celebrated their birthday, and yesterday on 28th of June there were five of them! Today however there are three Eurovision birthday artist. They have that in common that they all are from Northern Europe. But their entries are quite different from one another. One of these three, aimed for Eurovision three times for three different countries. Gitte Hænning, Eyþór Ingi and Elina Born have a birthday.

Gitte Hænning, 72

Germany selected the Danish singer Gitte to go on their behalf at Eurovision in 1973.Therefore she sang “Junger Tag” at the stage in Luxembourg. Where she got 85 points, same as France that year and thus shared the 8th place. Before that, in 1962 she tried to take part for her home country Denmark, but the song was disqualified. And she also took part at the national selection in Luxembourg in 1978.

Eyþór Ingi, 29

Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson represented Iceland in the 2013 Eurovision in Malmö, with the Icelandic language “Ég á líf”. This was the first, and so far only, time Iceland sent an entry in Icelandic since the language rule was lifted. Finishing 7th in his semi, he ended in “Icelandic territory” (somewhere around 16th…) in the final; 17th.

Elina Born, 24

Elina Born represented Estonia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. She did so alongside Stig Rästa. Stig was also the songwriter behind their entry “Goodbye to Yesterday”. They finished third in their semi, and in the grand final they came 7th. Elina took part at the national selection in 2013 and 2017.
