Ugandan viral sensations Spoon Youth congratulate Netta on Eurovision victory!

Back in March, just a week after the 2018 Israeli Eurovision Song Contest entry TOY was revealed for the first time, a video of the Spoon Youth crew from Uganda dancing to the track became a viral sensation. Following Netta’s victory last weekend, the Spoon Youth crew congratulated Netta on her win. They really did know all along!

Congratulations Netta!

Almost 300,000 views!

Spoon Youth’s dance to TOY is impressively approaching 300,000 views on Facebook. Furthermore, shortly after we wrote about the video, Netta herself heaped praise and love on the Ugandan group… and deservedly so!

Who are the Spoon Youth crew?

From the Namuwongo slum in the Ugandan capital city of Kampala, the Spoon Youth crew are is a youth group whose biggest passions are traditional African dancing and African street dance. Supported by the non-governmental organisation “little light Uganda”, Spoon Youth hopes that their group can create a brighter future for everyone involved in the project.

Their aim is to “fight negativity in the community and build unity among the youths in Namuwongo slums”. In addition, the group also “carries out general cleaning of the community” as well as “early pregnancy, sexual harassment, HIV & drug abuse sessions”.

You can support Spoon Youth on Patreon by clicking here where their goal is to raise enough money to be able to rent a place for their meetings and dance practice! Find out all about them by visiting their official Facebook page!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
