An Xtra Happy Birthday; June 6th!

After a rather slow start to June when it comes to Eurovision birthday, today does what it can to increase the daily average! Five Eurovision stars celebrate their birthday today; three girls and two guys! Two of them were born on the exact same day, even though they are not twins; ByeAlex and Igor Cukrov! 

Tini Kainrath, 50

Tini represented Austria at the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. She was part of the group The Rounder Girls, alongside Lynne Kieran and Kim Cooper. They performed the up-tempo, 60s inspired song “All To You”. On the big night they recieved 34 points, thus finishing in 14th place.

Mariana Popova, 40

Mariana represented Bulgaria at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. She performed the song “Let Me Cry”, which is an uptempo song, in the semi-final. From the dreaded second position in the running order, she was awarded 36 points. This meant she finished in 17th place in the semi, thus failing to qualify for the grand final.

ByeAlex, 34

ByeAlex, or Alex Márta, represented Hungary at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. He performed his song “Kedvesem” in the second semi-final. He finished in eighth place, thus qualifying for Saturday’s grand final. There he performed as act number 17, just before the eventual winner, Emmelie de Forest. With his 10th place, Alex managed to bring Hungary back into the top 10, and with a song in Hungarian at that.

Igor Cukrov, 34

Igor represented Croatia at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. He did so in a duet with Andrea Šušnjara. In the second semi-final, thy performed the song “Lijepa Tena”. The jury picked Igor and Andrea as their qualifier from this semi, thus giving them the chance to perform again in the grand final. There, however, they finished down in 18th place.

Corinne Gfeller, 33

Corinne represented Switzerland at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. She did so as part of the duo Zibbz, alongside her brother, Stefan. They performed the song “Stones” in the first semi-final. They received 86 points, which landed them in 13th place. Due to this they did not make it through to the grand final.
