Infegreece.gr reports that the former Junior Eurovision host country will not be participating this year.
Fresh off of the country’s best ever Eurovision result, CyBC — Cyprus’s public broadcasting service — has announced that the country will not be a part of this year’s contest in Minsk, Belarus.
Though CyBC has not revealed any reason for their decision at the time of publishing, it is worth mentioning that this announcement comes after two disappointing Junior Eurovision results for Cyprus. The country finished second-to-last in 2016 and found themselves at the very bottom of the scoreboard last year in Tbilisi.
What do you make of this sudden withdrawal? Is Cyprus simply discouraged after multiple poor results? Or, after finishing second at the parent contest in May, is it possible that CyBC is conserving energy and money to instead focus on finally snagging a Eurovision win in the near future?
