An Xtra Happy Birthday; week 36!

The Eurovisiopn birthday people of this day have set their mark on Eurovision in one way or another. That includes gigantic disco ball, anti-bullying song, far gone pregnancy and a victory!

Ami Aspelund, 65

Ami represented Finland at the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Fantasiaa”. She almost managed to make it into the top 10, finishing in 11th place.

Kirsten Siggaard, 64

Kirsten Siggaard has represented Denmark at Eurovision three times, as part of the duo Kirsten og Søren, aka Hot Eyes. The first time was in 1984, when they finished 4th with “Det’ lige det“. They returned the next year with the song “Sku’ du spørg’ fra no’en“. This attempt earned them an 11th place. They took part in Danish Melodi Grand Prix in both 1986 and 1987 without winning the right to represent Denmark. However, they didn’t give up, and in 1988 they returned to win the national final for a third time. This time they manage to set a new “personal best”, as they finished 3rd with “Ka’ du se hva’ jeg sa’”. This time around Kirsten was *very* pregnant; she gave birth a mere three weeks after the contest. Kirsten also participated in DMGP in 1983 and 1990.

Heiðar Örn, 44

Heiðar Örn represented Iceland at the 2014 Eurovision in Copenhagen. He did so as part of the band Pollapönk, which is a very popular punkrock band, mainly for children, in Iceland. They performed their song “No Prejudice”during the first semi-final. To their own surprice they qualified for the grand final, where they finished in 15th place. In addition to being the blue “polli”, the singer and guitarist, Heiðar Örn is also the composer and one of the lyricists of the song.

Nigar Jamal, 38

Nigar Jamal represented Azerbaijan at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Duseldorf. She performed the winning entry “Running Scared” alongside Eldar Gasimov.

Alyona Lanskaya, 33

Alyona represented Belarus at the 2013 Eurovision SOng Contest in Malmö. She performed the latin inspired song “Solayoh”, where she entered the stage by disco ball. She finished 16th in the grand final, which is the second best Belarussian result in the history of the contest.
