September 8th
Like yesterday, today also has an Eurovision winner. And despite technical difficulties managed to convince Europe.
Carola, 52
When Carola Häggkvist was 16 years old she represent Sweden in Munich in 1983. With the song “Främling” she scored 126 points, that landed her the 3rd place at the contest. Her song became really popular and set her music career on track.
Melodifestivalen 1990-1991
After her success at Eurovison, she returned to Melodifestivalen in 1990 with a song called “Mitt i ett äventyr” and ended in 2nd place. This did not let to much down as she and the songwriter Stephan Berg made a song for Melodifestival the following year. That song “Fångad av en stormvind” won the Swedish selection, there for performing at Eurovision in Rome. Even thought there were technical difficulties at Carol’s performance she ended with the highest score as well as France. But since she received more 10 points the victory was hers!
Like all of our readers, Häggkvis needed more Eurovision. She entered it again in 2006 with the song “Invincible” and became 5th at the Final. Making her one of the most successful Eurostar at Eurovision. One of our Flashback Friday is dedicated to the birthday girl.
