‘Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga’ included in Netflix’s award season campaign

For your consideration...

As awards season approaches for the world of cinema, Netflix has selected the films they will be pushing and backing in hope of bringing home a few trophies to their California headquarters. And, guess what… one of the films that has made the list is Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga!

Next year’s Academy Awards may have been delayed by two months – but Netflix are still preparing for the big night in advance! Will Eurovision win any trophies in the upcoming awards season? Only time will tell…

Soundtrack in the spotlight

Launched earlier this month, Netflix’s ‘For Your Consideration’ website features 28 films that Netflix believe are worthy of nomination for awards, like the Oscars, next year. The Eurovision film features on the list alongside many other favourites including Michelle Obama’s documentary film Becoming, Netflix’s new animation Over the Moon and historical legal drama The Trial of Chicago 7.

The film’s subpage notes director David Dobkin, editor Greg Hayden and stars Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as ‘for your consideration’, however the main focus is clearly on the film’s catchy soundtrack. The film’s stand-out song, ‘Husavik’, which proved to be a global iTunes success in the summer, features among the videos on the website.

Also featured are some other songs from the movie’s soundtrack including ‘Lion of Love’, ‘Volcano Man’, ‘Double Trouble’ and ‘Jaja Ding Dong’. It awaits to be seen whether any of these songs will be nominated for a Best Original Song Oscar!

Will the people’s voices be heard?

While Netflix pushes The Story of Fire Saga for the expert vote, the film has already been nominated for two awards at the E! People’s Choice Awards, which will be held on 15th November.

The film received its first nomination in the ‘Comedy Movie of 2020’ category alongside the likes of The Kissing Booth 2, To All The Boys: P.S. I Love You and The Wrong Missy. Will Ferrell also received a nomination for ‘Comedy Movie Star of 2020’ for his portrayal of Lars Erickssong.

What’s your thoughts? Would you like to see ‘Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga’ nominated for a major film award – maybe an Oscar, even?
