The show will be hosted by Martin Brygmann and Tina Müller. Last year the final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix was held in the Royal Arena without audience. That is the case this year too, but the show has been moved to studio 5 in DR Byen, which will give this year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix a more cozy and intimate atmosphere.

On stage, all artists are backed by DR’s Grand Prix Orchestra under the direction of conductor Peter Düring. Unlike recent years, the winner will be selected by the televoters only.

Denmark in Eurovision Song Contest

Last year the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix was won by Ben & Tan with the song “YES”. The duo was set to perform 12th at the 2nd semifinal of the contest. Unlike many other broadcasters, Danish DR didn’t offer the duo to be internally selected for 2021 but decided to hold a national selection.

Denmark first appeared in the contest in the second edition in 1957 and participated in total of 46 times. It won the contest three times: in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann, in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers and 2013 with Emmelie de Forest. Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, it failed to reach the final on four occasions.
