🇮🇱 Israeli Eurovision 2022 entry to be chosen during X Factor Israel

The show will be used to select Israel's Eurovision 2022 entry, replacing Hakokhav Haba.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that X Factor Israel will be launching the fourth series of X Factor Israel this year. In addition, Later it was revealed that this will be the method to select Israel’s Eurovision 2022 artist, replacing Hakokhav Haba. Now, it has been reported that the Israeli entry will also be selected using the X Factor format.

According to EuroMix, the Israeli entry for Eurovision 2022 will be chosen during the final of The X Factor Israel, due to take place in January. IPBC, the Israeli national broadcaster, will announce a call for Israeli composers to submit songs.

From the submitted songs, a professional committee will shortlist the top songs. At the semi-finals stage, each of the final four will perform two original songs selected for them by the committee. Of the two songs, one song per artist will qualify for the final.

In the final, each finalist will perform the song that qualified for the final. The winning contestant will represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Italy.

The series began filming in the summer and is due to start airing on Reshet 13 in October.

Back in February, Israeli broadcaster Kan announced that they had began preparations for their Eurovision 2022 selection. This made Israel the first country to confirm their intention to take part in next year’s contest. It was alleged from earlier this year that the selection would be externally-held, likely either HaKokhav Haba or The X Factor Israel.

About X Factor Israel

The Israeli verson of the multinational franchise has aired previously three times. Despite the first and second series airing in 2013-2014 and 2015, the third series aired in 2018. All series so far have been hosted by Bar Rafaeli who also cohosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel-Aviv. 

The third series was won by Eden Alene who went on to also win Hakokhav Haba in 2020. She, of course represented Israel in 2020 after winning with the song “Feker Libi”, unfortunately she couldn’t represent Israel in 2020 due to the pandemic. However Israel re-selected Eden for 2021, who eventually finished 17th in the Grand Final in Rotterdam with “Set Me Free” after a public song selection process.

Although the judging panel initially included Simon Cowell, who expressed his excitement at what Israel’s edition of the franchise will offer, he later withdrew. The panel will now include Eurovision 2018 winner Netta, Ran Danker, Miri Mesika, Aviv Geffen and Margalit Tzan’ani.
