The Rasmus release new single ‘Rise’

The Rasmus have released a follow-up single to ‘Jezebel’, ‘Rise’. The veteran Finnish rock group have released their first new material since participating in Eurovision.

While they are most famous outside of Finland for their 2003 hit ‘In The Shadows’ from the album Dead Letters, The Rasmus have been releasing material since 1995. Their most recent album, their ninth, was released in 2017 under the title Dark Matters.

Along with two songs in released in 2021 (‘Bones’ and ‘Venemous Moon’, the latter with Apocalyptica), ‘Jezebel’ represented their first new material in nearly five years. ‘Rise’ now adds a fourth song that they have released relatively recently. As of yet, there is no album announcement. However, before winning UMK with Jezebel, they had announced a European tour for later this year.

The Rasmus – Rise

As befits its title, ‘Rise’ calls for the listener to ‘rise up’ in the face of adversity and keep going. The lyrics also use imagery such as a ‘dead gray town’, all our ‘friends are gone’ and the listeners are ‘misfits’, following their alternative theme. It’s a rock song very much in keeping with The Rasmus’ usual wheelhouse, with some rising chords throughout.
