Rehearsal review

Rehearsing today for Malta inside La Seine Musicale is Ike & Kaya, performing “My Home”. As the first rehearsals are closed to the press, this review is based upon content made public by the EBU and France Télévisions.

We begin the Maltese performance with Kaya on an “egg chair” covered in flowers reminiscent of the scenery we see in the music video for “My Home”. She’s wearing a white dress with a tutu style skirt. When Ike joins her in the second verse, he’s wearing a casual black and white jacket and trouser ensemble.

Similarly to what we just witnessed in the Irish rehearsal, Ike & Kaya’s main staging hook here is the use of a pathway on the LED floor to symbolise the pair’s wish to find their way back home. The LEDs transport us to a fairytale world in which we see pink clouds, blue skies before changing to a jungle-style setting at the performance progresses.

Ike & Kaya are experienced performers for their age after appearing on Malta’s Got Talent this time last year. They look at home, excuse the pun, on the stage in La Seine Musicale and as one of only two rap-influenced entries in this year’s contest – the other being Alinur & Beknur from Kazakhstan – “My Home” could stand out in the field of 19.
