45 semi-finalists announced for Selecţia Naţională 2022

In February, a jury and the public will vote for 20 songs to proceed to a televised semi-final.

Romanian broadcaster TVR recently announced that a total of 94 artists applied for Selecţia Naţională 2022. Last week, it was announced that a five-member jury would shortlist the 45 best submissions to proceed to the next round. The list has now been published, and features Cezar, who represented Romania at Eurovision 2013 with “It’s My Life”.

For Selecţia Naţională 2022, around 40% of entries were written by foreign composers. These composers hail from countries including Sweden, Great Britain, Russia, Croatia, Israel, Italy, Greece, Spain and Bulgaria. In addition, the pool of artists is one of the largest for the selection to date, indicating a strong interest to bring Romania success at Eurovision 2022 in Turin.

The jurors for this year’s pre-selection who chose the best 45 songs to progress to the next stage of the competition were:

What’s next?

All 45 songs now compete in a two-part semi-final. Between the 5th and 10th of February, a jury and the public will be able to vote for their favourite acts. The jury will select 15 songs to progress to the second part of the final, while the public will select five songs via Facebook.

On February 12 a televised semi-final will be held, featuring the first live performances from the 20 shortlisted songs. During the show, a jury will select the 10 finalists, announcing their points after each performance.

On March 5, the final of Selecţia Naţională 2022 will take place, where 10 artists will battle it out for the ticket to Turin. The winner will be determined by a combination of a public and jury vote.
