Today on the radio show Ö3-Wecker it was announced that LUM!X will represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with the song “Halo”. Tyrolean singer Pia Maria provides the vocals for the song.
The 19-year-old DJ LUM!X (Luca Michlmayr) has gained success with hits such as “The Passenger (LaLaLa)” and “Thunder“. In 2019, he released the song “Monster” with Gabry Ponte, who is known from the group Eiffel 65. The song has reached over 215 million streams on Spotify and it has sold more than 400,000 copies in Germany, giving the artists a platinum record. Overall, he has over one billion streams, over 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify and multiple platinum and gold certifications.
LUM!X was brought to the speculation by Austrian media two weeks ago, while yesterday the Austrian newspaper Oberösterreichische Nachrichten broke the news. This morning it was officially confirmed in ORF’s morning radio show Ö3-Wecker.
Austria will compete in the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin. Austria’s representative will perform on the second half of the show on May 10th. Last year Austria was represented by Vincent Bueno. He represented the country with “Amen” but failed to qualify to the final. Last time we saw Austria in the final in 2018, where César Sampson finished third with “Nobody but You”.
