Graham Norton is the big favorite to host next year’s competition! With the growing possibility of the United Kingdom hosting next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the wishlists on who should host the big event have already started forming.
Graham Norton leads the favorites to host
Last week, the EBU announced that Ukraine would not be suitable to host next year’s competition. Therefore, all eyes turned to the UK to take on the event. A number of cities have already started expressing interest to host the event. Other than the host city there is another important question – who will host the event?
As expected, long-time Eurovision commentator Graham Norton is on the top of the list to host the event. Aside from being the UK’s commentator since 2009, Norton also hosted the Eurovision‘s Greatest Hits show with Petra Mede. Considering his Eurovision expertise as well as the massive support from the fans, selecting Norton as one of the hosts would be a wise decision. Norton recently commented on Metro on the possibility of the UK hosting:
It’s sort of bittersweet isn’t it, because I really feel for the EBU having to give Ukraine that news. They didn’t want to hear it, the EBU didn’t want to give that news. Now that’s happened, I know the BBC are looking at it really seriously. I don’t know if it’s possible, but if it is, great!’
However, there are several other names that appear on the list of possible hosts. Some of them are Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Eurovision 2013 entrant Bonnie Tyler. According to Betfair, these three along with Graham Norton find themselves on top of the list to host the contest. On the other hand, despite the support from fans to host the show, Rylan appears much lower on the list. Another name that appears lower than expected is James Corden. Despite his success in the US, Corden does not seem to be a very likeable name among fans to take on the hosting responsibility.
Betfair odds
- Graham Norton: 3/1
- Holly Willoughby & Phillip Schofield: 9/2
- Bonnie Tyler: 8/1
- Davina McCall: 10/1
- Dermot O’Leary, Lulu: 16/1
- Maya Jama: 33/1
- Rylan: 40/1
- Alan Carr: 50/1
- James Corden: 66/1
- Laura Whitmore: 80/1
- Alison Hammond, Jonathan Ross, Jack Whitehall: 150/1
- Simon Cowell: 200/1
