The broadcaster responsible for the German participation at the Eurovision Song Contest – ARD have opened up their song submission window for their national final ”Unser Lied für Liverpool. Including a novel way in which one song will be selected for the national final.
Pop or country, electro or R’n’B, Schlager or rock: no matter what style of music – we look forward to a diverse national final.

So how will they try and achieve that? Well as previously stated there will be two ways to submit a song. They are as follows.
The traditional way.
From all applications submitted through this portal, a team of experts selects the acts for the national final. This team includes advisory experts from the music industry, the German ESC delegation, the international ESC fans and ARD pop radios. They once again support the ESC national final. In addition, the NDR also approaches artists itself. In the end, the ESC editorial team in the NDR decides who will make it into Unser Lied. Terms and conditions can be found here.
The TikTok way
This year, TikTok Deutschland is also involved in the search for the German ESC act for the first time. Under the hashtag #UnserLiedFürLiverpool, artists can apply with their songs and face the users of TikTok. The most promising songs on the social platform, which must of course also comply with the ESC guidelines, are selected by our team of experts and then put to the vote on TikTok. Those who get the most votes there will be present at the national final. Terms and conditions of the TikTok submission can be found here.
ARD:NDR have not yet decided how many acts will take part in Unser Lied für Liverpool but as soon as we know we will report it.
We do have some details!
“Eurovision Song Contest 2023 – Unser Lied für Liverpool” is planned for the beginning of March. Then it is decided by televoting who will represent Germany at the ESC in the UK. In advance, there will also be an online voting via the ARD pop radios Antenne Brandenburg, BAYERN 3, Bremen Vier, hr3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR3 and WDR 2. The result is included in the overall standings in the national final. Further information will be provided at a later date.
Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022
Similarly to 2023, ARD also ran a national final to select their 2022 act. Out of the six acts competing Malik Harris won with the song ”Rockstars”. Good radio play and good streaming numbers couldn’t prevent Germany finishing in 25th and last place with six points.
