Marking their 20th year in the contest, TRM have confirmed that Moldova will participate at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Sweden. This follows their third appearance in a row in the grand final, with Pasha Parfeni finishing in 18th place with “Soarele și luna”.
Selection method to be confirmed
Confirming their participation to ESCplus, Moldova’s head of delegation Daria Capatina added that she was “happy to confirm” that Moldova will participate at next year’s contest in Sweden. So far, 17 countries have confirmed their intention to participate in 2024, including Luxembourg, who will be returning to the contest after a 31-year absence, and 2023 runners-up Finland.
No details have yet been announced about Moldova’s selection method for the contest; these details will be announced in due course. Moldova usually selects their entry via a national selection, with the Etapa națională method being used for the first time in 2023. Moldova have only internally selected their entry twice – Natalia Barbu in 2007 and Natalia Gordienko in 2021.
Moldova at the Eurovision Song Contest
Moldova made their Eurovision debut in 2005 with Zdob și Zdub’s “Boonika bate doba“. With a successful sixth place, this was the start of things to come. Overall Moldova has participated in the contest 17 times, reaching the final on 12 occasions. As well as reaching the top 10 with three more attempts. Their best ever result came in 2017 with SunStroke Project’s “Hey Mamma” achieving third place. They also finished second in the televote at the 2022 contest in Turin with Zdob și Zdub and Advahov Brothers’ “Trenulețul“.
In Liverpool, 2012 returnee Pasha Parfeni brought Moldova yet another qualification to the final, meaning they have now qualified every year since the cancelled 2020 contest. Finishing in 5th place in the semi-final, “Soarele și luna” finished in 18th place in the final with 96 points.
