XTRA DECIDES sees the team here at ESCXTRA score the Eurovision national final songs, reviewing our winner. Follow us from here through to March 2024 as we make our choices for Eurovision 2024.

Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix continues tonight with the second of three semi-finals. As before we will be picking our favourites from each of the semi-finals before eventually choosing our favourite to win the contest.

Farida with “Heartache” is our favourite from this semi-final. Based on our scores, Erika Norwich & Super Rob with “My Ai” and Mileo with “You’re Mine” would also be our choices to qualify for the grand final.

1Farida – “Heartache”1144
2Erika Norwich & Super Rob – “My Ai”1106
3Mileo – “You’re Mine”840
4Gåte – “Ulveham”641
5Eli Kristin Hanssveen – “Touch of Venus”460
6Anne Fagermo & Dag Erik Oksvold – “Judge Tenderly of Me”440

Bente (Farida – “Heartache”)

This is the best song in the second Melodi Grand Prix semi-final, in my opinion! It’s well-produced, and I don’t doubt that she will perform this well. It also has a lot of staging potential, so I’m really excited to see what they’re going to come up with for the live show!

Vincent (Erika Norwich & Super Rob – “My Ai”)

“Heartache” and “My AI” are extremely close in our rankings, the latter losing out because it is, unsurprisingly, more divisive. I hope it doesn’t harm it too much in the actual competition. It is easy to say that “My AI” is surfing on the trends of artificial intelligence and emulating recent “gimmicky” and successful entries (Subwoolfer, Kaarija), but it is a bop, it uses the AI theme with some hidden depths (when you consider the number of people who used ChatGPT instead of therapy), and I have big expectations regarding the staging (Rob, you’d better be on stage!).
