We will be providing a live stream throughout each and every day of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 as well as reports from every rehearsal that takes place over the two weeks. Furthermore, there will be Facebook Live videos from the Altice Arena and snapshots of Eurovision life from around the city on Twitter and Instagram.

The next artist to rehearse is Rasmussen for Denmark. We have just watched their first run through of Higher Ground live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Staging If you’ve seen Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, you will know exactly what to expect as once again DR elect to stick to their national final staging. The performance is bathed in blue lighting, with a large boat sail on either side of the stage. For the final chorus, the wind machine is turned up and we get the snow effect as used by Ireland’s Ryan O’Shaughnessy yesterday. The next artist to rehearse are Jessika ft. Jenifer Brening. We have just watched their first run through of Who We Are live on screen for San Marino and here is our initial reaction. Staging Jessika and Jennifer are joined by not just two robots but FOUR!!! On the one side are three of them and on the other side is just one with a sign saying “I’m Not Your Robot”.  Later the sign flips and says “Will You Marry me”. After this Jessika starts interacting with the robot. In the end, both form a heart with their hands. Vocals Vocals are like in the national selection. The next artist to rehearse is Sanja Ilić & Balkanika for Serbia. We have just watched their first run through of Nova Deca live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Staging The first shot of performance is with the white-bearded man with his flute, before a quick switch to Danica who begins singing. After around 30 seconds, the camera switches to a wider shot revealing a drummer and two other female vocalists. Mladen then appears behind the three females to begin his vocal part around a minute in. For the rest of performance, Mladen and the three females engage in a variety of simple choreography and synchronised movement around the stage. Danica is definitely the focus of this performance which is bathed in black …

The next artist to rehearse is The Humans. We have just watched their first run through of Goodbye live on screen for Romania and here is our initial reaction. Staging The beginning is very dark. Later the lead singer gets joined by her band who all wear white. With the band, there are mannequins on stage. The wear masks like the two dancers, but on their face. All mannequins are black except for one, which is white. The message is, that many people try to talk someone out not doing suicide. Vocals Vocals are brilliant. Very good. The first artist to rehearse is Alexander Rybak for Norway. We have just watched their first run through of That’s How You Write A Song live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Staging If you have seen Alexander’s Melodi Grand Prix performance, you pretty much have seen this performance. If not, Alexander starts with various on-screen graphics, which he interacts with. These include a virtual piano, violin and football. As the first chorus begins, Alexander is joined by two male and two female dancers. The whole performance uses blue and pink lighting. Alexander does have a couple of head microphone issues, but continues without a hitch. Of course, he plays his violin during the instrumental part towards the end of the song. …

Daily Press Poll 2018: Results from day 2 of rehearsals

Day two of rehearsals at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 has come to an end! We’ve seen the final 9 entries from the first semi-final take to the stage. As has been done in previous years, we have conducted the daily press poll to discover how members of the press rate today’s performances! How it works After the conclusion of today’s rehearsals, we asked 35 members of the press to rate today’s performances based on their rehearsals rather than by their favourite songs. To do this, each press member chose their top 3 performances and we allocated 5 points to their favourite, 3 points to their second favourite and 1 point to their third favourite.
