We will be providing a live stream throughout each and every day of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 as well as reports from every rehearsal that takes place over the two weeks. The latest artist to rehearse for the second time is DoReDoS for Moldova. We have just watched their latest run through of My Lucky Day live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Staging Moldova is delivering the magic box to tell a “love story”. It’s about a girl and two men who fancy her. Together with their three backing singers/dancers, they deliver a flawless performance. Camera shots are almost 100% and it looks very solid. During the first 2/3 part of the song, most of the time only two of DoReDos are out of the box. With their box, they tell the magical story and sometimes do magical tricks …

The latest artist to rehearse for the second time is Julia Samoylova for Russia. We have just watched their latest run through of I Won’t Break live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Staging Once again, Julia is performing from the top of a two and a half metre tall projection mountain. The camera begins with a close-up of Julia as she begins her first verse, and later in the verse, we see a subtle blue projection on the mountain. Daily Press Poll 2018 Part 2: Results from day 6 of rehearsals

We’ve come to the end of day six of rehearsals at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018! As we explained earlier, today is unique in that we have a set of semi-finalists rehearsing for the second time and the automatic qualifiers rehearsing for the first time. Therefore, we will be doing separate polls for each group. The results of part 1 of the poll can be found here. Now, here are the results for the second part of today’s Daily Press Poll! How it works After the conclusion of today’s semi-finalist rehearsals, we asked 35 members of the press to rate today’s performances based on their rehearsals rather than by their favourite songs. To do this, each press member chose their top 3 performances and we allocated 5 points to their favourite, 3 points to their second favourite and 1 point to their third favourite. The final rehearsal today is from Madame Monsieur for France. We have just watched their latest run through of Mercy live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Staging We begin with a slow fade up of Émilie’s face followed by a wide shot of the pair of them. We have dry ice surrounding the stage with some minimal white and teal coloured lighting which changes to blue as the chorus begins.    As the second verse begins, they both cross the two separate bridges and meet in the middle of the platform.  The camera shots really excel here, catching the interaction between the two of them beautifully.  …

Staging Amaia and Alfred begin their performance on either side of the stage, walking towards each other during the first chorus. There’s heavy use of steadycam throughout the entire performance, which begins during the first chorus. Amaia and Alfred only interact with each other. Staging There is a gigantic tunnel of diamond shaped LED light strips in the centre of the stage. It’s purple coloured – similar to Robin Bengtsson last year. The lights rotate round them in the first verse and then come from back to front in the chorus. Then they flash on the beat when it comes in at the end of the first chorus. First up for their first rehearsal is Claudia Pascoal for Portugal. We have just watched their latest run through of O Jardim live on screen and here is our initial reaction. Staging Remarkably, for the first 1 minute and 40 seconds of the performance, Claudia is filmed using entirely close shots with soft transitions in between each camera cut. Claudia is surrounded by sporadic gold lights. Once we finally switch to a wider angle, it is revealed these lights are props on stage that look like photographer spotlights. When Isaura is introduced with the first wide angle shot, she is standing stage left to Claudia. She is only visible for around 10-15 …

Staging This is very similar to the first rehearsal. As a reminder… If you’ve seen Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, you will know exactly what to expect as once again DR elect to stick to their national final staging.
