After two years of collaborative work, sourcing Eurovision artists for the BBC to represent the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest, music management company, TaP Music have decided to end the partnership and “pass the baton” back over to the BBC for 2024.
No TaP Music and BBC collaboration for Eurovision 2024
In a humble statement on social media, TaP Music confirmed the news that they will no longer be assisting the BBC in choosing a Eurovision artist to represent the United Kingdom from 2024 onwards. Since 2022, the music management company responsible for global artists such as Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding, have worked with the BBC to help select Sam Ryder and Mae Muller.
Initially the collaboration was due to last only for one year. However, on the announcement of the UK hosting Eurovision 2023 on behalf of Ukraine, TaP Music decided to stay on for one more year. So although it might seem convenient timing to withdraw following the 25th place for host entry, ‘I Wrote A Song’, the early signposting of the decision was there.
Throughout the statement, TaP Music remain appreciative of the work undertaken with the BBC, Mae Muller and Sam Ryder. As well as being part of the journey that ensured the UK received its best Eurovision Song Contest result since 1997 with ‘Space Man’.
As of yet, there is no comment from the BBC about the future direction of the Eurovision selection process. Whether remaining with a internal selection, out-sourcing from another talent agency or returning to an open national selection method. So stay tuned for further news!
