As Junior Eurovision draws closer more countries reveal their plans to select entrants for Minsk. Portugal now officially opened the submission window for their national final, Juniores de Portugal.
Submission window closes on Saturday September 15
Portugal is now accepting submissions for Juniores de Portugal 2018. Singers between the ages of 9 and 14 will have until September 15th to put their name forward if they wish to represent Portugal in Minsk. Singers should submit their name as well as videos of a musical theme interpreted by them to junioresportugal@rtp. pt. Although last year the country held a televised show, this year it will only be online. At the end of the submission period, a jury will be responsible to select 5 to 10 candidates who will be invited for auditions at the broadcaster. After than an artist will be selected to represent Portugal. Furthermore, the song will also be internally selected.
Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Portugal made their Junior Eurovision debut in 2006 in Bucharest with Pedro Madeira’s “Deixa-me sentir“. So far, they participated at the contest 3 times in 2006, 2007 and 2017. Unfortunately, Portugal struggled to achieve good results at the contest with the 14th places achieved in 2006 and 2017 being their best result so far.
Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018
Belarus’s capital Minsk will be the host of the 2018 edition of Junior Eurovision. This is the second time the event takes place in the city, that previously hosted it in 2010. A record-breaking 20 countries will participate in Minsk on November 25. Wales and Kazakhstan will both make a debut with Kazakhstan participating for the first time to any Eurovision related event. Furthermore, the contest will also feature three returning countries: France, that last participated in 2004, Azerbaijan that last participated in 2013 and Israel that last participated in 2016. Unfortunately, Cyprus instead confirmed its withdrawal from the competition.
