Even though next year’s contest seems to be miles away, some broadcasters are now looking into what their entries will be like at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. Switzerland’s Head of Delegation Reto Peritz talks about their entry this year, as well as the search for their 2021 entry.
‘Songwriting sessions to take place to find the right song’
In the interview, Reto talks about how other countries has shown interest in Gjon, such as Belgium and Albania, hence the decision to select him for the 2021 contest.
With regards to the selection of the Swiss entry for 2021, he has mentioned how there will be several songwriting sessions with various songwriters and producers both locally and internationally. As well as songwriting camps, SRF has also opened the submissions for their 2021 Eurovision entry, with submissions closing on September 20.
Once they have whittled down the songs that have been produced, they will then go on a market analysis with different countries, in order to find the song that could bring the best result for Gjon and Switzerland.
Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest
One of the “Founding Fathers” of Eurovision. Switzerland have been here from the start in 1956. Only missing Four contests in 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2003 due to the relegation rule.
As well as being one of the founding fathers, they are also the inaugural hosts and the inaugural winners when the late Lys Assia won with the song “Refrain”. The nation had to wait another 32 years to get their second and currently last win. In 1988, with the the Canadian Celine Dion. Celine, who was at the time little known in Europe, won with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi” with 137 points.
Gjon’s Tears was set to represent Switzerland at this year’s contest in Rotterdam with the song ‘Répondez-moi’. After the cancellation of the contest, SRF has confirmed he will be representing Switzerland at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.
