It was recently announced that the Netflix film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, will be released next month on the 26th June. The release date is confirmed, after it was reported that the film is delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Netflix has released a teaser of the film with the song ‘Volcano Man’ last Saturday (when the 2020 Grand Final was supposed to take place).
More about the Eurovision Film
The film centring around the Eurovision Song Contest was announced as early as 2018, when Will Ferrell was spotted in Lisbon where he spent the time to undertake more research about the Eurovision Song Contest.
Filming for the Eurovision film took place in Edinburgh in Scotland (which hosted the contest back in 1972), in well as Tel Aviv, where the producers filmed some audience shots during the warm up of the shows that took place, and in Iceland, where the film is based on.
As for the cast, the film stars Will Ferrell, along with Rachel McAdams, Demi Lovato, Dan Stevens and Piers Brosnan.
Netflix and Eurovision
In anticipation of the release of the film, Netflix acquired the rights to broadcast the 2019, and the 2020 edition of the film last July. It was even reported that Netflix sponsored Iceland’s participation for the 2020 contest.
