RTK, the national broadcaster of Kosovo, will be broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 live ! Kosovo joins Canada, Kazakhstan and Slovakia as other non-participating nations who will be broadcasting the contest.
According to Eurovision Kosovo, the Kosovar national broadcaster will once again be broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest live. Tonight’s semi final does indeed appear on the RTK 1’s TV listings. RTK has broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest live for viewers in the country for many years now.
Although the nation is yet to debut at the contest proper, they have participated in EBU events in the past. Back in 2011, Tringa Hsya represented Kosovo at Eurovision Young Dancers.
To be eligible to participate in Eurovision proper, Kosovo must become a member of the International Television Union.
Associate members must rely on invitations
As previously reported, associate members of the EBU must rely on invitations to participate in EBU programming. This is how Kazakhstan’s Khabar Agency has been able to participate in the past three editions of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Kosovo, as it currently does not meet the criteria to apply for EBU membership. However, the EBU has mentioned that ‘constructive discussions will continue between the EBU and RTK about future possibilities for closer co-operation.’
