🇩🇰 Denmark confirm Eurovision 2022 participation

This will mark their 50th Eurovision participation to date.

Denmark has become the latest country to confirm their participation for the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, due to be held in Italy. The confirmation comes shortly after the DR confirmed that they would not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest later this year.

DR, the Danish public broadcaster, has confirmed to ESC Today that it will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022. This will mark their 50th Eurovision participation to date. Considering that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix has been used to select their entry since 1957, it is expected that the selection will be held once again next year.

Meanwhile, DR recently confirmed that Denmark will not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year, due to be held in Paris in December.

Denmark at Eurovision 2021

Back in April last year, DR wasted no time in confirming that they would be hosting Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 2021, and thus would not be internally-selecting Ben & Tan following the cancellation of Eurovision 2020. Although the duo submitted an entry for the selection, the broadcaster ended up declining it.

In March, DR hosted DMGP as a one-night selection featuring eight competing acts. Following two rounds, Fyr & Flamme’s “Øve os på hinanden” triumphed in the televote-only super final. The song was DR’s first entry to be entirely in Danish since 1997. The entry had immense public support prior to Eurovision, becoming the first Danish Eurovision entry to top the singles chart since 2013.

Unfortunately, this didn’t quite convert to success in Rotterdam. After closing the second semi-final, “Øve os på hinanden” placed 11th with 89 points. This was Denmark’s first non-qualification since 2016.
