Måneskin and ABBA score nominations for BRIT Awards 2022

Måneskin score a 'double nomination', while ABBA picks up one

The nominees for the BRIT Awards 2022 have been announced today, with Måneskin and ABBA both picking up nominations for International Group of the Year. Måneskin’s “I Wanna Be Your Slave” has also been nominated for International Song of the Year.

Both groups have had a very successful year, with Måneskin taking home the Eurovision trophy in May and ABBA making a triumphant comeback in September.

The winner will be announced during the 2022 BRIT Awards ceremony on Tuesday 8th February, which will be broadcast in the UK on ITV. BRIT Award winners are decided by the BRIT Awards voting academy comprising of over 1,000 music industry experts including publishers, artists and managers.

Måneskin and ABBA scoop International Group nominations

With previous winners including U2, Destiny’s Child and Haim, both Måneskin and ABBA would join a very esteemed list of acts if one of them scooped the award in February. The BRITs announced the full list of nominees for the award earlier today:

  • ABBA
  • BTS
  • Måneskin
  • Silk Sonic
  • The War on Drugs

Eurovision 1974 winners and pop superstars ABBA finally made their musical comeback in September, with two new singles “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down”. The latter single reached the UK Top 10, marking their first top 10 entry in 40 years. In November, ABBA released their new album Voyage which sailed to global chart success, topping the charts in 19 countries. To top it all off, they also received their first Grammy nomination for Record of the Year.

“I Wanna Be Your Slave” also scores nomination

Måneskin have scored a double nomination at this year’s awards, also picking up a nomation for International Song of the Year. “I Wanna Be Your Slave” will go up against 14 other songs for the prize, including “Save Your Tears”, “good 4 u” and “Happier Than Ever”.

Måneskin have had the dream year after winning Eurovision back in May with “Zitti e buoni”. Not only did they pick up the award for Best Rock Act at the MTV EMAs in November but it has also been announced that they will perform at the Reading & Leeds Festivals 2022. The Italian rock group has also performed on shows including The Tonight Show, The Voice USA and Global Citizen Live. They also announced their European tour “LOUD KIDS ON TOUR ’22” earlier this autumn, which will kick off in London in February.

The BRIT Awards will air on ITV on Tuesday 8th February.
