Turin 2022

More information about “Germany 12 points” revealed

Who are the 25 lucky artists still in the running?

After finally revealing the date of the German national final earlier this week, NDR has now released a short video hosted by Alina Stiegler where she goes backstage of the final pre-selection round.

Backstage at the final stage

Alina welcomes us in a big hall, where the final round of the German selection is taking place. On a small stage the remaining 25 artists are performing in front of the jury, consisting of members of the big German pop radio stations and the Head of Delegation, Alexandra Wolfslast.

In an interview, Wolfslast states that she is very impressed with the selection and that there is a big variety in style, age and genre. Furthermore she reveals that not only the song and performance is important, but also the artists inspirations and intentions. After their performance, artists have a small interview with the jury where they will be asked questions about staging ideas, their passion about Eurovision and much more. The jury members remain anonymous to retain fairness and avoid any influence on their decisions.

Expanded social media presence

On top of this, Alina teases a possible return of a former female national final entrant, however no names are mentioned throughout the video. NDR is also hoping to expand on social media and re-introduces us to Broder, who in the past has appeared in Songchecks and reaction videos. He will soon create content for eurovision.de on TikTok.

The German national final “Germany 12 points” will air on the 4th of March, where the winner will be decided by online, radio and televoting. All the songs will be revealed on Feburary 10th with voting starting on February 28th.

Germany in Eurovision

Germany has had mixed fortunes in recent Eurovision Song Contests. They automatically qualify for the final as one of the Big 5, but that has not helped much. The country had selected their entry internally for 2020 and 2021. For the latter result, Jendrik finished in 25th place with 3 points. Prior to that, Germany has finished 25th or lower in every contest since 2015, with the exception of 2018, where Michael Schulte came 4th with ‘You Let Me Walk Alone’.
