After billions of years of performing together, it is no surprise that Norway’s Subwoolfer are able to release a new song so soon after the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Keith, Jim, and DJ Astronaut’s new song is called “Space Kelly”, another fun play at a well-known song but completely in the theme of wolves, bananas, grandmas, and space!
Space Kelly
Previous songs that Subwoolfer have released are “Give That Wolf A Romantic Banana” (a Valentine’s special of their Eurovision song), “Turin“(a song about Turin to the tune of “Jolene” by Dolly Parton), and “Dragma” (a song about Grandma’s to the tune of “Baby” by Justin Bieber). Really, it was inevitable that another song would soon be added to the list of ‘reinvented’ songs by Subwoolfer.
“Space Kelly” is a clear nod to this year’s Eurovision host, Mika. The singer has several hits to his name, but perhaps the most well-known one is “Grace Kelly”, which he also performed during the Grand Final as an interval act, creating a medley of several of his songs.
During the song, they joke about all the theories about who is behind the yellow masks. They refer to their fellow Eurovision contestants, and then claim that being yellow is just more fun. In the end, they tease that new music will be out soon! Listen to the song here:
Who are Keith and Jim?
While their story states that the band was formed billions of years ago on the moon, there are some suspicions going around that there are humans behind the wolf masks and astronaut suit. Many names have been suggested, the most popular guesses being Ylvis (Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker, the duo behind 2013’s massive hit “What Does the Fox Say?), Didrik (ESC 2010, MGP 2020) and Emil Solli-Tangen (MGP 2013 and 2020), Gaute Ormåsen (MGP 2010 and 2013) and Ben Adams (MGP 2010 as part of A1). During one of the first rehearsals one of the wolves was heard speaking through the microphone in a distinctly British accent. However, the Norwegian delegation has neither confirmed nor denied any of these speculations.
Subwoolfer at the Eurovision Song Contest
There was no way around Subwoolfer at this year’s Eurovision! The band won Norway’s national final in February, and has attended all the pre-parties around Europe as well. Their hidden identities have been part of much speculations, including that Norway’s 2021 contestant TIX was DJ Astronaut.
Their song “Give That Wolf A Banana” got 6th place in its Semi-Final, and ended up in 10th place in the Grand Final with 182 points.
